Is it Mold or Mildew?

How do you tell the difference between mold & mildew? You can decipher if you have mold or mildew in your home or business based on the appearance. Mildew is usually white, yellow or gray and grows on the surface of warm and moist areas. Mold is darker in color (green or black) and tends to grow both on top and underneath wet surfaces, making it harder to see. Mildew will appear fluffy or powdery. Mold will have more of a fuzzy or slimy texture. Mildew is the early stage of mold, and therefore much easier to treat. And it is important to treat mildew quickly before it turns into mold.
You can treat mildew by scrubbing it with a simple mildew cleaner found in most grocery stores. Mold is better left to be treated by professionals. If mold is ignored, it can damage the entire structure of your home or business. Mold has also been linked to long-term health issues such as heart problems & respiratory issues.
